Tuesday July 7^th

I hadn’t heard from Tyler at all since Friday. Not even a text message, nothing. Today, I found myself walking towards the creek again. The heat outside was almost unbearable-too bad I couldn’t wear less clothing, the bruises were still there.

Dad put together a BBQ for the Fourth of July, and we were going to go watch the fireworks at the park later that night. I sat uncomfortably at one of the fold out tables in our backyard, smiling awkwardly at every person who walked past me. The yard quickly filled with my parent’s coworkers and their kids.

Monday June 29^th

Monday rolled around quicker than I had hoped. I was in my room making myself look presentable when Toby barged in.

“Oh, dear God.” He quickly turned around when he saw that I was only in my underwear. I scowled at his back and went back to doing my makeup.

Friday June 26^th

Nic. He hadn't left my thoughts since we ran into each other at the creek. Part of me wanted to go see if he was there again, but I had better things to do with my time than chasing boys. I was supposed to be meeting Melani later today.

The floor in the middle of the room fell and Vincent climbed up the set of pull-away stairs that had been hidden before. Me and Carissa huddled closer to each other and cowered when he stood before us. He glanced back at the other girl's body with a frown.

Wednesday June 24^th

I pretty much just lazed around the house all morning before deciding that I needed to find something to do. Toby had gone camping with his friends yesterday and wasn’t going to be back ‘til Friday, so I was stuck at home alone. I couldn’t hang out with Melani because, “I met this really cute guy at Dominoes just now, so I’m spending the day with him.”

I winced as I slowly regained consciousness, the back of my head where I had been struck was pounding with pain. I let out a slight groan as I felt myself being lifted up off the floor. My nose was filled with the all too familiar scent of musk and mildew. I managed to get my eyelids open just enough to see that I was in Vincent’s house, being carried up a flight of endless stairs.

I waited until just before it started getting dark to go over to Vincent's house. On my way out, I made sure that nobody was watching me, mainly Carson. He would try to stop me from going over there, I knew that for a fact.

Saturday June 20^th

Adele told me and Melani that she would meet us down the street from the house where the party was and we’d all walk over there together. Rule number one of attending parties where alcohol, among other things, was going to be present : Don’t park anywhere near the house.

Monday June 15^th

A call at exactly 1:07 PM woke me up. My favorite part of summer break? Being able to sleep in and stay up as late as I want to. As long as I keep it quiet while my parents are sleeping, because “Unlike you, Chae, we are not on vacation”. I can't even tell you how many times I've heard that line

Carson was waiting for me on the porch, but I walked past him-making my way down the gravel pathway of Vincent's house.

“Hey, Molly!” He caught up with me and grabbed my shoulder. “What the hell happened in there?” I shrugged his hand off my shoulder.

We all stood in silence for a long time, waiting for any other sound besides the scream that was ringing in our ears. My eyes were glued on his house, the shadows crawling up the walls seemed to grow darker the more I stared. The whole situation shot shivers down my spine.

The end of fall-close to winter-when the air freezes your body and the ground ices over; That’s when the strange things started to happen. One night in particular stood out, and still does.
